Challenge/customer problem

• Excavation of a pit approximately 7 to 9 metres deep with deep-seated inflows and a high groundwater level of around 3 metres below ground level (GOK)
• A cost-effective and efficient method was sought to avoid lowering the groundwater level whilst protecting the ground, buildings and local residents

Solution / Customer benefits

• Innovative excavation shoring using RSS liquid soil and E&S linear shoring
• Use of E&S linear shoring is more cost-effective than conventional methods (e.g. sheet piling)
• Protection of the ground, the environment, buildings and local residents from noise and vibrations
• The existing soil was excavated on site, processed and conditioned with additives to form a pumpable, flowable, self-compacting building material, and subsequently returned to the excavation secured by the E&S linear shoring system

• Challenging geotechnical conditions
• Only outer shoring panels were installed, all of which were guided in a rail; the resulting smooth shoring wall formed the basis for the subsequent dismantling and removal of the panels.”
